Pope B XVI to Resign on 02/28/13! What do I think?

Pope Benedict XVI to Resign - from the Washington Post

"After having repeatedly examined my conscience before God, I have come to the certainty that my strengths, due to . . ." and that is the question.

- Note: a case is filed against him in the International Court - because of the world-wide cover-up of the sexual abuse of children & the vulnerable for crimes against humanity.

- Note: a Royal Commission has been convened in Australia to investigate institutional crimes of sexual abuse there - but most know that as most of the crimes are coming out the Catholic Church. So, what's being investigated is the Catholic Church.

- Note: due to the revelation of the cover-up gross sexual abuse against children in Ireland for decades, the Irish Church is a wreck.

- Note: thousands of documents were recently released in Los Angeles showing a decades long fact that former Archbishop the Diocese of Los Angeles, Cardinal Mahony and his lieutenants systemically covered up the sexual abuse of children and protected priestly sexual predators from prosecution. Further, this shows the internal operations of every diocese in the world.

- Note: in the Pope's homeland of Germany, when he was bishop there, he himself covered sexual abuse of minors and protected sexual predators in the priesthood there.

That's plenty to make the point. I don't think I can say, therefore, "God bless you Holy Father!" But rather "Repent Holy Father!" and "God have mercy upon you!"

I wonder if the date chosen to announce this was deliberate or by accident? Today is the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes.  Guess we may never know.

Διδαχή και λογοδοσία (The Teaching and The Accountability) = κήρυγμα (The Proclamation)

Been away for a few days - got sick with what I believe was the norvirus. I'm well again, but still likely contagious for a few more days. Nevertheless life must go on - just must wash my hands thoroughly whenever I use the lavatory. 

But I had a few days to reflect more on the meaning and the effect on the recent release of the damning documents in Los Angles clearly showing how Cardinal Mahony covered-up the acts of sexually predacious priests an how he protected them.

Today just before I left for work I realized that what the Church needs more than anything else are leaders faithful to the Διδαχή (the Teaching) and hold to unwavering will to λογοδοσία (The Accountability).

Currently the Catholic Church's people are divided among those lines.  The former almost ignoring λογοδοσία, in mighty words and deeds, focuses on the  Διδαχή; while the other, in a mighty crusade, demands λογοδοσία to the loss and almost total scorn of the  Διδαχή.

But ancient Christianity married these together - in the κήρυγμα - the proclamation of the Good News of Jesus Christ. 

We are fighting over these two which must be brought together again. Without this the World will be unwilling to listen to κήρυγμα.

I know some, especially among the more conservatively minded, might think that the κήρυγμα is just about the faith elements (e.g. the incarnation virgin-birth, passion, death, resurrection and promise of final coming in glory) that is solely about the Διδαχή and not the λογοδοσία.  However, I beg to disagree. 

Why so? Because the Sermon on the Mount (the versions of it as in two of the Synoptic Gospels (Matthew and Luke) and the parable of the sheep and goats (the "Whatsoever you do's") definitely shows that λογοδοσία was part of the core original κήρυγμα of the Lord himself. 

So, let try us hard to stop infighting - one side from fear of seeing the Church (the group, the family) destroyed with freedom of religion horrifically abridged and the other from fear of criminals, under the protection of leaders, heinously harming innocent children and vulnerable, and be a people of the whole κήρυγμα as we have been taught by the Lord through the Apostles.

 I think, if done with a will, would bring our leaders around and help the Church, at least internally,  live in the peace (shalom) the Lord  gave us and which is to sustain us in His Love (ἀγάπη) until He comes again.
